  • This 13 year old Grenache is stunningly good straight out of the just opened bottle. An inch pour started out as just dark red but 2 minutes later darkened to opaque black. Strong nose filling aromas of fully ripe blackberries. Exceedingly smooth, caressing, juicy, and fruity in the mouth, adding plum and cherry. Acidity and tannin have receded into the background but remain enough to keep the wine refreshing, lively, and never flabby. No alcoholic heat or fumes are detectable. Overall, close to as good as aged Grenache gets from anywhere.

  • Really a good QPR after initial funk blew off. Drinking well right now and should for some time to go, but no reason to hoard any longer. Drink up.

  • What a difference a night makes... Well, it's probably the wine. This bottle (which I had before and it does vary from bottle to bottle, not only over time), is very good and at its peak. Rather dark with slight lighting at the edges. Nose of spicy black cherries, coffee and candy. Tastes are similar with some high pitch acidity to balace it all. Good length on the finish for such a moderate pedigree. Had I tasted it blind I would have guessed a 10 year old Gigondas or Vacqueyras or maybe a Burgundian-style CDR such as Clos du Caillou CDR VV. Comparing this to the Artazuri 2001 Granacha 2001 we had last night flatters this one evn more. The Artazuri was past its prime, and was quite funky all around (even in previous tastings). If you have this one, drink it soon. While it still has life, it will not get any better (and hopefully you'll get a good bottle...).
