  • Awesome. Typical chardonnay nose on initial sniff; after glass warms up, florals are more noticeable. Some peach ice cream aromas. Some citrus. Palate mirrors but adds buttery flavors. After 9 years of sleep, acidity has toned down considerably and the wine is able to be comfortably appreciated and admired without food. Mouthfeel is slightly round yet a bit of crispness still remains. Oak is fully integrated and seamless. Nice medium finish with a spice kick. *Winemaker at the time was "the" Dominique Lafon of Burgundy fame (Consultant) and Isabelle Meunier. This was their last vintage before big changes at Evening Land; Isabelle left the next year to co-found Lavinia. *One of three Chardonnay wines produced that year, others being: Summum & La Source; this was their base, but arguably not their weakest.

  • Five years later: Still with apple and underripe peach, some citrus (grapefruit?), a nice minerality & cream on the core with a richer mouthfeel. Finishes with diminished but still bright acidity. Tasty!

Side by side with a more recent Seven Springs chard, the use of oak to achieve that mouthfeel and some buttery flavor is the first thing that hits me... has the pendulum swing all the way and is it ready to swing back a bit to permit the use of a little oak, a little artifice?

  • This bottle seemed a bit hot and overoaked but delivered delicious fruit with buttery flavors.

  • The wine “didn’t make up its mind,” according to a friend who found it neither Chablis-like nor discernibly New World. On the other hand, I found it to be in a great place, with just the right amount of oak and an enjoyable acidity to make it a repeat purchase. Pleasant lemon meringue on the nose with a rich, creamy mouthfeel. Ça suffit.
