opened this for the wine group's Spanish/Mexican tasting at our house. Kriss brought the 2000. This was better, less brambly and rough, but it was still ver rustic. Not an elegant wine, but on its own, with food, it is serviceable. But not outstanding.

The color is a youthful purple/dark red with a nose of plums, black cherry, cherry sweet tart, and an ash/charred note. In the mouth, it is straightforward with the same dark fruit displayed on the nose and an ashy component. This wine has a tough-textured mouthfeel with high acidity that paired well the the acidity in the tomato sauce. The finish is solid with a healthy dose of tannins that could use a few years to settle down. I would recommend holding this for 2 - 5 years in the hopes that the tannins will soften and integrate with the fruit. Consumed with spaghetti in tomato sauce with meatballs and sausage.

Deep pruple. Nose of blackberry, leather, smoke, and cherry. Follows through in the mouth. Felt a little think and harsh(High Tannins?). Good finish.
