In my cellar since release and my last bottle. Decanted at 5pm and tasted from 7-9pm with dinner at Restaurant Lorena in Maplewood, NJ. This was a backup bottle for our anniversary (married in 2001) after tasting the 2001 Casanova di Neri Tenuta Nuova which was flawed to some extent. This was absolutely wonderful with one of the restaurant's signature dished, a mushroom crepe with a tarragon cream sauce. It just lengthened and expanded the flavors in the crepe superbly. On its own it is a dense dark garnet color with some licorice, a lightly spicy and vanilla nose. The palate has medium bodied red to black fruit. Finish is slightly peppery with wet stones and more licorice but a bit short. Punched above its weight class with the crepe for sure but delightful overall.

Very very dark, with a touch of purple around the edge. Raspberry, candied blueberry, and vanilla nose. Surprisingly light-bodied, cranberries, tart cherries, leather, tea, fully integrated tannins, smoke, and a dry, spicy medium finish. Still fully alive and pretty good, but not really a value at the list price.

The whole point of this wine is NOT to be like an Argentinian fruit bomb. Really coming into maturity now, this is beautiful! Elegant. Delicious.
