  • Blind. Fairly down the middle and nondescript aromatically -- lots of red cherry, herbs and spice. Palate has good medium weight fruit and nice balance. An easy drinking and approachable red burgundy, but hard to get excited about it too.

  • Nose: Oh dear. The nose is very oak driven and rather clunky with some campfire smoke, dark red cherries, berries, and some florals. There is a larger scale to the tones that belies its origins to boot.

Taste: Medium bodied with medium+ acidity and noticeable wood tannins. The feel is coarse and clumsy with smoke, dark red cherries, wood spices, and some berries.

Overall: A giant let down. The two previous wines were lovely and discreet while this was a Banshee. The oak treatment on this was heavy handed and really took away from what possibly could've been a lovely wine.

  • Burgundy Tasting at Chevalier Wines: On the heels of the 2012 Chambolle 1er, I was excited to try this wine from one of my favourite vineyards. This is denser and richer than both of the 2012s; I was surprised by how dark and brooding this was for a 2010. More animale here as well, but it's the oak treatment that just ruins it for me.
