Single vineyard Colonia 2013 by Felsina was a disappointment - especially as we had it next to the 2006 Fontalloro from the same wine house. Flat tannins, dull acidity, no inspiration nor complexity among the primary, secondary, or tertiary notes on the palate. Nose promised more than what the wine showed in the mouth. Opened the bottle 4h before tasting and the experience was degrading from minute to minute.

1 hr air. A fabulous initial bouquet of spice, blood orange and iron that was the closest this wine ever came to betraying its Sangiovese essence. The wine really didn’t call to mind traditional Chianti at all, but I think that says more about the wider range of possible Sangiovese expression than most give allowance for. Now, once you stop trying to understand this as Chianti you realize this wine is a big wow. Huge by Chianti standards, but magnificently balanced with a complex tension between meaty, bramble and spice elements. It does not have typical Sangiovese brightness - but on its own majestic terms it’s magnificent. It’s hard to tell but I think this is close to fully mature.
Score : 94. Relative to expectations: +++

BYOB - Finewines.se - 2013 - 10 years ago; 4/28/2023-4/29/2023 (Vinkällaren Grappe): My wine in the BYOB where it was very finely tuned on the nose. The palate I can find raspberry, oak, raisins and a long finish. My first impression of this was it reminded me of a Grenache dominated wine. The wine it selfs require more time to integrate the tanins where it today was fairly harsh even though it was decanted an hour before.
Believe it is in a tunnel at the moment.

One of the best chianti you can get. Complex, earthy with good remaining acidity. Drink now.
Worked well with pollo alla cacciatora

BYOB - "2013, 10 Years Ago" with Finewines.se (Vinkällaren Grappe, Stockholm, Sweden): A full on Chianti with hints of warm fruit, rasisns, black pepper, oak. Warm and juicy witch got me thinking of grenache rather that sangiovese. Long finish. A fantastic wine in a sweet spot now.
