  • Brought to Literary Society, firmly middle of the road with no obvious flaws but also held no interest.

Par for the course for an entry level wine in a difficult year, stick to the more prestigious offerings in 2013.

  • Prior bottle was seven months ago and this wine still shows extremely well, with additional upside possible. Mostly black cherry and plum on the nose this time; no red fruit notes or vanilla/oak. Medium bodied and the wine continues to improve in terms of overall balance and integration. Black cherry upfront along with blackberry, then the deeper plum through the middle and nicely tart black cherry and blackberry towards the back. Perhaps it was serving temperature (cellar temp), the time of year or simply evolution, but this bottle showed as much more blackfruit focused while the prior bottles always seemed to have some redfruit notes. Acidity continues to hold up well, providing solid backbone and contrasts for the fruit. Should continue to improve over the next 18-24 months with additional time after that at a high level. Just a fantastic bargain; great QPR. Looking forward to trying the 2014 in just a few days.

  • Prior bottle was only five months ago, but this wine continues to improve nicely. Mix of black and red cherry on the nose along with plum and integrated vanilla. Medium bodied and slightly more round and noticeably better integrated than my prior bottle. Black cherry upfront, shifting to red and then adding a deeper, richer, rounder plum note through the middle which bridges to the finish which is characterized by tart red cherry, floral notes, minerals and earth. There's still plenty of acidity and structure, but it's more tied into the fruit than previously. It gives the wine a little more depth and allows the fruit to show a bit more cleanly, while retained brightness. Very pleased with how this has evolved and I'll probably have my last bottle sometime this fall and look to buy the 2014 as soon as possible. Great QPR.
