  • Bottle #1422. Very consistent with last bottle: The wine benefited from moderate aeration. It was medium garnet in colour and offered red fruit, red cherry, espresso, spices, cinnamon, clove, liquorice, mushroom, leather and smoke on the nose. On the palate the wine showed red fruit, red cherry, cola, espresso, spices, cinnamon, clove, tobacco, mushroom and balsamic notes, with fresh, medium-plus acidity, fully integrated tannin, a good mouthfeel and very good length. The appetizing, balanced, medium-bodied, oak-spice-driven wine has aged well and drank well. Drink now.

  • I bought a few bottles of this the other week from a local wine geek at EUR 20,- per bottle. The bottle was in perfect condition. The wine was medium to dark garnet in colour and offered red fruit, red cherry, espresso, leather, mushroom, spice, cinnamon and clove on the nose. On the palate the wine showed red fruit, red cherry, espresso, mushroom, tobacco, spice, cinnamon, vanilla and clove as well as balsamic and some chocolaty notes, with medium-plus acidity, well-integrated tannin and very good length. The medium-bodied, medium-complex, oak spice-driven wine was very balanced. It did not have enough complexity to merit a higher score, but the wine has aged nicely and drank well. A classic Rioja in style, despite unusually high portions of Grenache and Mazuelo (30% each). Drink now.
