My first impression of this Cabernet was "authentic" both to the varietal and the terroir. It has a California appellation on the label, but 50% of the fruit is grown in Mendocino County and 30% in the Pope Valley, the rest in Lodi. The Mendocino portion with the cool nights promotes the typical Cabernet Sauvignon tendency towards a mild green pepper and menthol earthiness that is totally authentic. Without knowing for sure, exactly where in Pope Valley, I taste some volcanic flinty mineral influence. Never the less, the whole package reeks of good Cabernet from people who seem to have a plan
