From Anselmo Mendes, the 2013 Curtimenta Alvarinho is a lesson in the aging potential of Vinho Verde whites. Fermentation starts on the skins, the grapes are then pressed into large format barrels to age for 9 months. Post bottling, Curtimenta is further aged in bottle for one year, all of which translates in the body of this wine. It’s silky, slightly oily and exquisitely smooth with incredibly complex and ever-changing flavors bruised pear and yellow-fleshed peaches that gracefully dwindle to a finish of lime zest, white grapefruit and almond skins. Bravo! Sample

Recommended by wine merchant here in Cascais, Portugal. Told me that the week before it came first of 3000 wines in a competition in Douro near Porto. He apparently was right. I have drank many good whites here in Portugal but his truly in my estimation was the best I have had. I typically drink white Burgundy and this was at that quality level. I'm sorry I don't have notes since it was at dinner with friends but it was creamy, balanced, fresh, fruity everything you want in a white wine and went great with sashimi and nigri.
