Still drinking well. Had an oily, tar taste/mouthfeel to it that was interesting. Fruit still very much there. I was concerned the plastic cork would not hold up, but it did.

100 % Syrah, 16.0% alcohol. Deep garnet color in glass with slightly browning rims. Sweet, ripe fruit on palate. Lots of concentration and depth. Chocolatey tannins. A fruit bomb very much in the Aussie Shiraz style. Slightly beyond peak with a little oxidized fruit. Rather one dimensional but a true heavy weight. Inside on bottle coated with sludge. Drink over next 2 or 3 years. 89/100.

Very interesting wine. This is not your typical syrah. It is still very fruit forward after 7 years, but balanced. Smoky, minty, dark fruit. I think this still has another 1 to 2 years on the drinking window. Very enjoyable.

Medium dark garnet red. Unique nose combines wood, mint, blueberry, brown spice and confectionary qualities without an actual impression of sugary sweetness. Yet all of this sweetens with air until it forms a more typically Paso-ish whole. At the same time it is without a doubt sweet on the palate (even though Tim Spear states that it "fermented dry on the skins"). A little afterburn is there but not much for a 16% ABV wine. While not likely to ever lose its decidedly sweet character, this has aged well for a wine thought by some to be teetering off balance. Furthermore, it casts doubt on the theory that plastic stopper is incompatible with more than a few years of bottle age. I'm particularly impressed by how the aromatic expression has persisted, as a decline in this quality is what I've heard most often cited as the manner of death in synthetic-stoppered wines.
