Community Tasting Notes (1)

  • {screwcap, 14.5%} The endless propiferation of sub-brands continues under Casella ownership, it seems. Inky purple. Full throttle, throwback nose with raisins baked plums, jam, chocolately oak. The palate is warm with alcoholic heat, the full spectrum of on-the-edge-overripe red fruit flavours; boysenberries, raspberries, and a touch of blackberry jam too. Tannins are a bit simple and grainy, acid seems unobtrusive; the heat sticks out on the finish a bit, and the mid-palate can't keep up with the action on the front of the tongue either. Back-palate is pretty quiet. It does have a depth of flavour above the average commercial levels, but it lacks anything more than that, and is surely best within five years or so.
