Prior bottle was just over 11 months ago and this wine continues to drink quite well. Black cherry, blackberry, black raspberry and spices continue to make up the nose. Between medium and full bodied with a very similar fruit profile of black cherry and blackberry. Upfront, the expression may have gotten a touch more open and rounded while the mid-body continues to show slightly better depth than the 2013. There are some nice black raspberry notes through the middle and towards the back that add a touch of balanced power. Tart black cherry, spices and minerals through the finish. With more depth, more blackfruit expression, slightly more complexity and slightly better overall integration, this wine remains a small but distinct step ahead of the 2013. Given that this bottle took several hours open to fully come together, I would estimate it has several years left in front of it at a high level.

A beauty, and not showing any “aged”/tertiary characteristics either. Big and packed with delicious fresh fruit of cherries and blackberries. The back end mineral and acidity streak is mild, yet provides superb balance and keeps this wine light on its feet, not heavy.

Prior bottle was almost 17 months ago and like the 2013 from last night, my notes were also quite similar to my prior bottle. Blackberry, black cherry, black raspberry and spice notes on the nose. Between medium and full bodied with the same mix of bright black cherry with cooler, deeper black cherry, but now also adds some red cherry highlights. Mid-body continues to have slightly more depth and balance than the 2013, with the combination of black cherry and blackberry the dominant notes, but some raspberry and red cherry starting to creep in towards the back. Overall, this wine simply feels more blackfruit (especially blackberry) dominant which works slightly better with the backside notes of tart black cherry, spices and minerals. The tannins and acidity work well to support the fruit structure. I'll save my last bottle for Q1 2024 to drink alongside the 2013.

Similar to 10/2023 bottle - still a baby, very fruit forward. Delicious. Wish it had a bit more bite but this may have been served too warm.

Soft, round, sweet strawberry fruit with forest floor flavors, ample finish, weaker acid, not as interesting as other River-Marie pinots
