A sweet treat. Figs, raisins, vanilla, possibly even a little candied angelica... basically a decent boozy christmas pudding. Not what you could legitimately call ccomplicated, but a nice fun treat on a chilly early autumn evening.

Michael Druitt Vintners/Hallgarten Annual Tasting (Claridge's Hotel, London): Cape Muscat is the name on the labels used outside South Africa. I saw a photo of the 80 year old Muscat vines this came from and the stems were as thick as tree trunks. Made from red and white muscat (white Frontignac 76% and black Hamburg 24%) this fortified wine is an unctuous treat with orange peel flavours.

Open, berried nose. Bold, sweet unsubtle palate - it's alright I suppose.
