  • Testing how the Terraces Chardonnay gets a year later when kept for a week after being opened. The color moves closer to translucent yellow than water clear. The nose is more complex and filling. The sip nicely combines a lusher texture with the bright acidity that is more typical for high quality white Burgundy Chardonnays. The aftertaste is long, smooth, and lively. Overall, a Chardonnay competitive amidst the best made in Napa, but without butter, vanilla, or sweetness.

  • The Terraces winery makes one of the finest ageworthy Zinfandels, so I was intrigued to see what they did with Chardonnay. And I was fully rewarded. Despite coming from a low land vineyard in the Oakville part of Napa, this wine could pass for a fine Macon in the southern most part of Burgundy in France. Vivid acidity, bright and mouth cleansing, lemon citrus fruit, good concentration, moderate alcohol, very subtle French oak, and nicely textured. No malolactic fermentation is permitted, giving the wine crispness, and extended lees contact adds texture.
