  • A blend of 50% Loureiro, 40% Arinto and 10% Trajadura, 100% destemmed, fermented in stainless steel, 10.5% ABV. Screwcap. There is an unusual amount of carbon dioxide in this bottle, it feels like a gently sparkling wine in the glass - even more so than e.g. a Txacolí. However this may be, it is a fresh and bright Vinho Verde, light and with a lovely acidic kick, aromas of flowers, aromatic green herbs and tart citrus, rounded off nicely by some residual sugar (6 gr/l), good length. Direct and for drinking now.

  • Medium nose shows straw, lemon peel, lime zest, white flowers. Palate is citrus driven, light crisp style, white pear, lime notes again, acidity does well, medium finish lingers, low alcohol. Nice QPR.

  • Classic Vinho Verde – zesty, refreshing, and straight to the point. The were no layers of complexity to peel back with this bottle, but that’s not to say it wasn’t enjoyable. Compared with the Anselmo Mendes bottle I had it up against a while back, the nose and palate were more restrained; new style vs old style, certainly. Tart citrus notes (lemon, lime, grapefruit) stood out immediately, along with a strong mineral/stone component. Though some hints of richer fruit did make their way through in the form of mandarin and melon, the wine stayed mostly true to those initial offerings. The palate also presented noteable sea salt and white pepper, and these, along with the slight carbonation, gave the wine a real spicy zest. The pointed acidity and light body would make this an excellent summer drink, and one that would pair excellently with any fresh seafood dish. Simple doesn’t always mean boring, though admittedly my personal preference leaned more towards the newer style.
