Needs 3 hours to really unfold. Then, fruit and tertiary flavors are on display. OK by itself, but better with food. Probably at peak, but no downturn imminent.

Edit: after pouring into 4 ounce bottles and saving overnight, bumping this to a 90. Nose became a little more fruit-driven but maintained some secondary tone.
PnP, aired out for an hour. Surprisingly, there's actually a bit of sediment in in this wine. I guess it is 6 years old...
Nose is very old world. Leather, sweet tobacco, cedar, and not a hint of fruit in sight. Palate is quite the opposite. Rather nimble and high-toned red fruit with good acid. Finish is maybe 10 seconds or so and reflective of the classic Merlot red fruit.
Decent wine. Lacking a bit of substance and structure to score higher, and I would have liked the nose to have some semblance of fruit. For ~$20 or so it's a good buy for an old-world craving.
Drink now. No reason to wait, and don't think this will improve much more with cellar time.

Presents itself with a beautiful burgundy-purple color. Smells of violets (also, garrigue and creosote/smoke), with the violets reminding me of a St. Estephe. Tasty immediately after decanting. Although I'm not a fan of the oak treatment here, the cedar notes do integrate well with the other flavors. Very round and silky smooth for a 5-year old wine. A tad tart on the finish. Based on my experience with this wine about 2 years ago, this should be a little better with an hour or two of air and some food. I think that I'll stick with my original drinking window and suggest another couple years in the cellar for this wine.

Well I get to eat my words from 2018, it has gotten better. Smoother and more integrated. Drinking well!
