  • This turned out well. The nose is decidedly earthy, with wild mushroom, earth, and a scent that isn't quite either of those, vaguely reminiscent of truffle, but not really that either. Umami goodness on the palate, and flavors in the red fruit spectrum, red raspberry and red cherry. I started consuming immediately upon pulling the cork, but it improved markedly in the glass over a couple of hours. This is good stuff, lacking perhaps a little in the presence and persistence of fruit in proportion to meaty/salty/earthy, but in the end I prefer that to an imbalance in the other direction.

  • At a fine restaurant, this 99 showed impressive weight and concentration but a drying palate that did not improve as the bottle was consumed slowly. A dark brick red center with hints of wood, slightly smokey cherry, hard- core backbone, and a decent finish, but no interesting fruit beyond just enough to balance the acidity. And the winemaking is definitely not D'Angerville despite the nice vineyard.

  • Bottle and fill excellent, but the cork was soaked and there was a little wine stain on top of the cork. This bottle was very ready to drink. It is an easy-going wine with pleasant blueberry / blackberry, earthy scents. A crowd-pleasing style, it is relatively soft (for a burg) and less food dependent than more classic styles - good as a drink. This bottle does not seem to have the requisite structure for long aging, but it is a good pop and pour.

  • Medium ruby with a paling rim. Enveloping aromas of forest floor, cassis, blueberry, minerals. Medium bodied, very complex, blueberries and cranberries in a nice minerally framework, with great balance. Still quite tannic and the finish goes on and on, and has a touch of oak. Still has years left to evolve.

  • Fairly dense ruby color, with slightly lightening rim. Rich aromas of blueberry, pine forest floor, cassis, earth, minerals. Medium bodied, complex with intense and slightly austere fruit-- blueberry, cranberry, earth, eucalyptus and a nice dose of minerality leads to a spicy finish. Tannins are still in evidence on the long finish, along with a touch of oak. This hasn't seem to have aged much since last tasted two years ago-- on the young side of drinkability, then and now.
