  • Medium gold color. The nose is fairly restrained, with yellow apple and sage. The palate shows relaxed, adolescent, "jellied" Riesling fruit, with flavors of Rainier cherry, candied pink grapefruit, and a creamy texture with well-integrated, tangy acidity. This is moderately sweet still, and like another recent '05 Spätlese, somewhat muted in its expression. Enjoyable, but maybe this vintage is in an in-between phase?

  • Sweet with nice tropical fruit. Thought it could have used a little more acid.

  • Much improved since release. Really fleshed out, in fact it seems to have that thickness to the material that's characterized more than a few wines this vintage as though the fruit practically wants to pop the buttons on its shirt, Incredible Hulk-style, but it's managing to do that without feeling flabby. To be sure, there is plenty of sweetness here, but it's tasty enough that it doesn't get tiring. It's got a yummy tropical deliciousness but in a slightly deeper cast, perhaps owing to its development in the bottle.

  • Powerful; a blast of flowers, white cherries, peaches and apples on the nose with faintly herbal and slatey elements developing with more air. Intensely bright, vivid fruit in the mouth, but the way it feels is striking - there's such density and extract here it feels more solid than liquid; fruit chiselled from stone. Quite sweet yet perfectly balanced with enough acidity to keep it fresh and vibrant despite the concentration here, amazing depth and length.

  • Viscous, ripe, notes of yellow, red and green apple, petrol, flowers, tea. Thick on the palate, with good acidity and mouthcoating finish. Drinking a bit above the spatlese level and will improve. Drink or hold.
