  • This 2014 was opened immediately after an otherwise same 2019. The blooming and evolving performance it shared is remarkable. Apropos Argillers, it's transparently floral. Age and vintage character acts as a restraint on it's aromatic force. As floral as it is, it's also brambled, and etched in earth. Patterns of syntax emerge from the action. I find thoroughly satisfying grips of acid, coded in detail. These race about as if in communication with each other, confidently darting across a tidal pond of passively collected berry broth. These patterns endure in stoic defiance on a very long, refreshing finish.

  • A lighter style Pinot Noir, but it's balanced.

  • A lighter styled red burgundy with scents of dried cherries, rose petals and a hint of mint. This a medium bodied wine, with med+ acidity and smooth tannins with flavors of tart cherries, cranberries and a little salinity.

  • . At first there is a little tangle of salty pale green stem juices, wet clay, and ruby red berries mixed and muddled as they may be. As it sits, and as I sit with it, the wine begins to find itself. The herbs deploy their peppermint to lift the berries (which remain anonymous.) A crusty rind of cheese made of lavender and rosemary. And always earth.
. The first drink is a relief; I didn’t know I was so thirsty. The tension in its aroma must have caused this. A peculiar and vivid parade of sensations occur. Clay figures ready for the kiln; smug, crunchy little raspberry cherries; aromatic herbs that won’t be fixed upon (mint, licorice, bay leaf, parsnip, and so on.) There is no blubber or syrup here, just smart, angular contrasts involving neatly integrated acids and tannin. It’s as dry and fresh as it can be.
. Dinner was organic kielbasa and cod cakes.
PS. Last drink was the best. Bracing. Live resin mineral bolt to the brain.
