Quite deep and pretty developed reddish-bronze color with a luminous golden yellow rim. The nose is very bold and sweet with rich aromas of dried fruits and golden raisins, some maple syrup, a little bit of nail polish VA, light resinous pine notes, subtle floral notes of spicy terpenes, a jammy hint of strawberries and a slightly oxidative touch of caramel. The wine is remarkably big, full-bodied and oily on the palate with very sweet and concentrated flavors of maple syrup, caramel, exotic Moroccan spices, a little bit of bruised apple, light apple jam tones, a hint of spicy bitterness and a touch of balsamic VA. The moderately high acidity doesn't feel high enough to give the wine freshness, but at least it keeps the wine well in balance and offsets some of the sweetness. The finish is very sweet, sticky and quite spicy with rich flavors of apple jam, mushroomy botrytis, a little bit of spicy bitterness, light golden raisins, a hint of balsamic VA and a cooling herbal touch of mint.

A beautifully rich, powerful and concentrated TBA with a lot of depth and complexity but enough balance to keep the wine from coming across as too unctuous or cloying. Seeing how the best Trockenbeerenauslesen are usually Rieslings, it's refreshing to taste a Muscat TBA that has kept so well for almost a quarter of a century. Overall a very distinctive and fascinating wine where the subtle touch of volatile character only adds some lovely complexity without distracting from the pleasure. A real treat on its own. Great value at 30€ for a half bottle.

  • Raisin, lime, mint, coniferous notes and slight exotics on the nose, along with some volatile feeling. The palate adds tart acidity that counters the considerable sweetness, keeping the package drinkable and not too cloying.
