Community Tasting Notes (1)

  • A slice of history and my first even encounter with a wine from the mythical great and late Henri Jayer. In 69 the young fruit of Cros Parantoux went into the village as he didn’t make the Cros Parantoux until later when the vines had reached maturity. The fill was rather good given age and very good label condition too. Cork saturated but almost came out in one piece. The colour showing age of course but still tinge of red. Initially a touch of musk and earth on the nose but blowing off with ten minutes of being opened to get more pure and ethereal. Scents of fine roses, good minerality, a shy sense of fleeting sweet and tart forest strawberry, the finish is precise, acidity is medium. It’s a beautiful village no doubt, it surely has passed its prime but this bottle was still holding on. If I had to score it would be something in the low 90s but I don’t really want to put a number to this.
