  • Significantly more orotund than the '18, the raw quince telling the frizzante to stfu right from the gekko. I mean, it's rawr, right? Some ox encroaches; may it remain manageable and not obfuscatory the next few days. An earlier review noted hay; that seemed sage 20 minutes ago, but the quince is quickly mutating from raw to membrillo
A day later, it's tempting to change the rating to FLAWED, except that what it's become is something I like yet never buy: oaked ribolla. Beeswax, bush quince membrillo, caramelized nectarine, and pine sap could also be Baumard's artisanal turpentine, but why be mean when I got 2 B+ 375s for $12

  • Had at a wine dinner as part of the Triangle Wine Experience in Raleigh.

Very light yellow. Honeysuckle and white flowers on the nose. Tart, crisp, lemon, apples, and pear. Nice as an aperitif and with the seafood starters. Very enjoyable.

  • Made from purchased grapes. Fermented in stainless steel with cultivated yeasts.

Pale green color. Youthful, fruity nose with quite rich aromas of mirabelle plums, slivered almonds, some golden apples and a hint of hay. The wine is ripe, moderately full-bodied and pretty sweet-toned with fruit-forward flavors of stone fruits, cantaloupe, some chopped almonds, a little bit of golden apples and a hint of honey. Overall the wine feels rather big for an Arneis with medium-to-moderate acidity. The finish is rich and sweet-toned with ripe, juicy flavors of mirabelle plums and other yellow stone fruits, some apple jam, a little bit of apple peel bitterness, light almond tones and a hint of apricot marmalade.

A quite ripe and big but also enjoyable and tasty Arneis. Lacks the playful freshness and sense of structure of cooler vintages, but otherwise feels pretty varietally correct. Nothing particularly memorable, but a nice, fruity white wine all the same. If you want freshness and elegance, cooler vintages than 2015 are the way to go.
