  • Really really good wine. Still has richness balanced by excellent 1998 acidity and fills the mouth with secondary yellow fruit flavors and brown spices. Exactly in the right place now for me, and similar to a year ago.

  • Just found 3 bottles, having thought I'd consumed the last one in 2011. One tonight was delicious and a nice accompaniment to sauteed salmon. Richness but good acidity. Yellow fruits just starting to feature brown spices. Drink but take your time. Will still be very good though different in 10 years.

  • It's a little bit surprising to say that a 15 year old, inexpensive wine (this cost $11.99 on release) is just starting to mature, but well, there it is. Lots of fruit still showing, mostly on the lemony side, but not tart/astringent. It has a subtle level of creaminess, just enough to provide a touch of richness/breadth to what is otherwise a very sleek wine. It's classical spatlese, not modern, overstuffed auslese sold as spatlese, and as such provides refreshement and very easy drinking pleasure, while still being complex and clearly evocative of the Treppchen. What a lovely wine, from a producer, that while not among the Mosel elite, still provdes wines that make me smile, time after time.

  • Just a spectacular bottle of Riesling. This is pretty much everything I could want from a starting-to-mature Mosel Spätlese; the fruit's still incredibly fresh and vibrant with a real precision to the flavours, and it's framed by the start of developing smoky and lemon cream elements amidst the floral and mineral accents. Lots of complexity here, and a palate presence that's remarkably light and elegant while never lacking for intensity or length. Outstanding.
