HDH Dec auction trip/dinners at SKY and RPM Italian; 12/13/2018-12/15/2018: I’ve found a lot of variability among ’83 Zillikens, but this was one of the really good bottles. A core of ripe fruit that’s still quite powerful and fresh, and layers of honey, spice, smoke, mineral, and herbal notes around the fruit. Intensely sweet with the power and richness I’d expect at this pradikat, but impeccably balanced with powerful acids making it feel vibrant and fresh. Fantastic.

HDH December auction; 12/13/2018-12/15/2018 (Chicago, IL): #13-84, 7.8% abv. Killer showing for this bottle -- so glad at least one of my two bottles showed well. There's incredible acidity with so much dense fruit here. Lots of fantastic fruit and and intensity here. I love the smoky, mineral tones here as well. Just absolutely great stuff.

Old German Riesling et al. (Chicago, IL): #13-84, 7.8% abv. Almonds, intense botrytis, and some sweet peaches, but enough of the taste of oxidation to make me sad.

All bottles had bad corks. Soggy and crumbly. The will still had a tiny bit of life but was mostly gone. There were hints of what it once was and could have been. Domage!
