  • Pop and pour. Second bottle of a case (first bottle a year ago). This review is without looking at prior review.

Deep ruby in glass. Med+ nose of violets, blueberry, vanilla, chocolate, coffee, oak & cedar, eucalyptus, licorice, earth, wet leaves.
Dry, med+ acidity, ripe med+ tannins integrating well, high alc (which is really the only knock against this wine), full body. Med+ flavor intensity, med finish.
Drink now or cellar for a few years to watch it progress.

  • Wow... How far my palate has come.
About 2016ish, I bought several cases of this wine. It wasn't expensive, as it's shown here in CT. I don't recall, and I'm not going to search. But, I also recall my loving this wine.
    Not anymore.
I saved one bottle, just because, and I thought it might be the bold, rich, robust Shiraz I recall the Mollydooker group producing....
Well, at least upon opening, it's more along the lines of sweetened purple grape juice.
The legs showing on this Gabrielle glass, made me go look at the alcohol ....17.0% abv! And what's incredible to me is that I think there's much residual sugar here... Or, maybe something else added to make it taste this forward.
    It's just strange.

    100% Shiraz
    17.0% abv

I've kept it overnight and we'll see what happens. My expectations aren't very high, though 5 years ago it's likely have rated this 80+ for sure. I'll not get anywhere close to that in 2023!

That said, if you've got this, pop every cork, and drink it... Or maybe just to make room for better wine!

Addendum - overnight, this wine showed a little tannic structure, but generally, this was a fragmented fruit forward fizzle.
Maybe it's just me, since I've seen scores of 90 on this wine. But, as always, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. This one won't fit a glass slipper anytime soon!

That said, I've had worse wines in 2022.
This will just lower expectations for the lower quality wines in my cellar, and make me embark upon Spring cleaning early this year.

75 is a generous score for this bottle, in it's present state.

  • Decanted 30 min. Complex nose of pepper, black fruits, licorice, vanilla
Far less complex palate than nose with extraction on the lighter side. Fruit less concentrated. Tannins still there in a good way. Medium body. Pleasant acidity. Dry. Short to medium finish.
Over all a pleasant wine. QPR not too bad at $40
Maybe has another year or two but I would start drinking now if you discover you have a case as I just did…

  • Very good! Not as expressive as I remembered.

  • My favorite Mollydooker wine and one of my overall favorites. Big, full bodied and opulent. Nose of dark fruit and berries. Firm tannins and well balanced. A good value. Needs some time to open up.
