Good cabernet franc, although it was a tiny bit flabby and less precise than a 2016 Dittière tasted next to it. It was also more on the fruit side, whereas the Dittière focused more on the chalk and the minerality. Due to vintage?

My regular tasting group does not like Loire Cab Franc. So I figured a 2015 Marginale would be all ripe fruit and leave them guessing. It might have. CORKED.

If the completely discordant reviews below demonstrate anything, it's that Thierry Germain's wines receive a mixed response. Or maybe it's down to bottle variation. Or maybe it's... I give up. Though I have little chance of making a mark in a crowded field, I suggest leaving it a while longer. It is a strange wine, and one I drank over five nights. This does not show restraint, it is because I did not enjoy it.
It is fairly aromatic, though not exuberant, with some of the textbook bell pepper and green, stemmy notes. I found a slightly oxidative dried fruit note emerge after half an hour or so. The tannins were grainy and drying, the acidity pretty harsh. There was a faded rigour about them.
Therein lies the conundrum - was my bottle too young, with unresolved tannins and acidity, or had it passed a sweet spot of ripe fruit and richness? With little to be gained by opening the other bottle now, I shall try and leave it for some time.

First night, was dull and even dilute up front. Got more saturation at the back, where fruit kicked in and some cedar emerged. Fairly long finish and lingering cherry berry. It put on some extra flesh on night two, but still wasn't anything special. Drank like a middling Bordeaux. Good overall, but I keep waiting to be wowed by an aged Cab Franc, and this wasn't it.
