In absolute terms this is a good Barolo (e.g. 84) from a very good year, but it deserves its higher ratings thanks to its QPR, as it is hard to find such a smooth and subtle Barolo at the price I paid of $90 for a 1.5l magnum. On day one there are gentle red fruit fragrances and a medium-long flavor and finish, with firm acid and soft tannins. With several hours of air the leather, smoke and earth flavors come out. The next day it had lost some of its fruit but the earthiness, acid and gentle tannins remained.

This TN is for day 2. Color of burnished raspberry. Nose of strawberry, cinnamon, sweet oak, and roses. Medium bodied, cherries, leather, black olives, dust, cola, strong tannins but not tannic, smoke, and a medium to long finish. On day 1, it was tight and boring. Much much better after sitting on the counter overnight, though not as fruited as I would like.
