  • Yanagara's "PF" (preservative free) Shiraz is fermented and rapidly bottled, without any significant wood exposure, herbicides, fungicides, preservatives or other manipulations. Bottled under screwcap, it is a deep ruby wine that delivers a package of blackberries and boysenberries that are accented with dried herbs and pungent cloves. Medium-bodied, fresh and with unnoticeable alcohol (listed as 14.5%), the wine's tannins, while relatively light in body, are quite astringent. Solid on the mid-palate, it proceeds to a medium-length, grippy finish. I would otherwise recommend cellaring of this charmless wine, but there is nothing in its vinification history that would warrant anything other than immediate consumption. Perhaps a little bit of faith in the saying "better living through chemistry" would have resulted in a better product. Drink now.

  • Haven't had a Shiraz for a while. Inky dark, red fruits, no oak, tasty. We polished off two bottles over three evenings. Good stuff. Wish I'd gotten a full case.

  • Taking the sustainable approach a bit further this Preservative Free shiraz puts an inside joke on the PF from winemaker Peter Fraser

No oak on this; red more than black berries on nose, darkening over the palate as the dark acidity kicks in. Fresh tannins, nice fresh style
