Community Tasting Notes (6) Avg Score: 90.3 points

  • Blood red, but with clarity. Wild cherry fruit aromatics combine with oak and tasty leafy notes. Tannins are tight and stemmy. The mouth is quite intense with depth of flavor and satisfying, definitely calling for a robust pasta or roasted meat. The finish is long but ends with some bitter notes. At almost 6 years structure, perhaps over-extracted, still seems to overwhelm the pretty fruit.

Day 2. Far better. Air brings out layers of lush fruit and gentler textures.

  • A little too modern and extracted for my tastes, when judged as a sangiovese. Odd given that I really liked their 2012 nebbiolo - I would have expected that in Paso Robles, nebbiolo would be the harder grape to render faithfully to the Italian originals, not sangiovese, but somehow the results are the other way round. Very fruit-driven (more on the black fruit end of the spectrum than red) and not quite enough of the tart acidity I crave in good sangioveses. I can certainly see there are people who would enjoy this more, though.

  • Definitely new world -- full bodied -- but has a classy Sangiovese character. Dark color but much more accessible and open than many of the 2015 Chianti Classicos and Riservas I've tried. Blew past a 2010 Cafaggio Chianti Classico Riserva Basilico Solatio. Sour cherry, cranberry juiciness, blackberries, some iron, tobacco, and leather.

  • Ripe fruit nose; Great fruit; More modern; A bit of heat as it warms up

  • light ruby color. nose with dark fruits and juicy cherries. palate still primary, juicy fruits and ripe but not over the top, quite balanced and good acidity. Obviously young and expresses the Paso/California fruit but in a balanced and very enjoyable way. This was tasted with older Italian wines and it more than held its own, would love to see this with some age. Great QPR.
