  • Bought £26.00 House of Townend Wines, Yorkshire.

    Popped and poured, well chilled.

Interesting super-gluggable wine. Unusual wine, can't think of another NZ producer doing a Vin Gris; Felton Rd are doing very well indeed.

    C....deep Onion skin, almost copper.

N....not much, which was a bit of a worry.

T....lovely wine, crisp finish but with plenty of charming fruit before that. Solid medium+ body. Peaches, quinces, lemons, some earthies, high alc, wood, hint of rose petal. Lovely swirling acidity at the moment. Very good Foodie style. Different/eccentric, a successful ''experiment'' (but, happily, not in an failing, faulty, 'look at me' needy 'Natural Wine' way).

VFM?....will buy again, and drink young.

    Tasting Note
A pretty nose of wild strawberry and flowers, with hints of chervil or fennel; a lovely harmony of the scents of early summer. Textural and rich, the palate follows with a complexity that is a big step up from expectations. Dry, but rewarding rather than austere and completely clean on a long and pure finish. A very pale salmon colour with fascinating food matching possibilities as well as a delight as an aperitif.

    Vinification
Vin Gris (vahn gree) is made from Pinot Noir juice and is only produced in certain vintages. Whole bunch pressing of young vine Pinot Noir results in the very pale copper colour of this Vin Gris. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeast followed by ageing on the gross yeast lees builds palate weight and complexity.

  • Pale copper pink - made with pinot noir but fermented like a white wine. Super refreshing. Nice waxy mouthfeel and not too sharp or acidic. Would be perfect for tapas or charcuterie. Looks like a rose but has more body and smoother (albeit without much complexity).
