  • If you haven't consumed the 2014 yet, don't wait much longer. Good, but seems on the verge of turning.

  • neither fruity nor earthy, just bitter…

purchased this at the winery some four plus years ago at release after having tasted all three single-vineyard pinots on offer – chose this as it (then) struck a good balance between fruitiness and earthiness.

now: opened wine about three hours, and decanted one hour before drinking

deep garnet colour with some opacity in the glass. on the nose red cherries and strawberries with pine needles and hints of mint. medium body on the palate with good mouthfeel and moderate acidity. adequately concentrated flavours of black cherries, black plum, and oolong tea give way to a dry bitterness that persists thru the white pepper edges of the long finish.

i tasted it before the meal, so adjusted the ingredients in my sauce to compensate for the bitterness… with enough success to save the day.

on day two, everything faded down a level or two… except for that bitterness which had completely replaced the earthiness enjoyed in the tasting room. some may like that bitter aftertaste not unlike that of an oversteeeped tea; but it isn't really my cup of tea, or glass of wine…

wine was stored properly and cork didn't show anything untoward… it was completely different than anything i've tasted from this vineyard by other producers; so methinks the vinification may not have been up to snuff

  • Well rounded, got bottle for a hood price making it a great value. Lighter than traditional California pinot noirs.

  • Some ups and downs with this wine, which showed best on the first day. Pretty fruit, a touch sweet and pruney, herbaceous notes, and noticeable bitterness on the finish. Fairly heavily extracted, though not over-the-top. Not quite jammy, but pushing the boundary. Overall, somewhat disjointed. It began unraveling by the second day.
