A private dinner (Restaurant Weinkirche, Walporzheim, Germany): The ancient (60+) Portugieser vines that produced this wine have since been uprooted - the end of an era. Wonderfully fresh and lively, lovely natural old-vine sweetness, not very complex or refined but vibrant and mineral, light on its feet in spite of its 14% ABV, black cherries, spices, only a hint of complexing tertiary development, warmth from the wood, juicy and supple but with lively phenolics, light finish, good length. Amazing vitality. I wish I had some.
