  • (41.4% ABV. Cask matured for 28 months: First in Sherry casks for 12 months on shore, then for 4 months at sea prior to another 12 months of second maturation in Madeira casks)
    Golden-peach colour.
Nose: Sweet, rounded caraway spice. Oak wood, a touch of alcohol, a hint of fennel and an even fainter hint of aniseed. With air it becomes more fruity and winey. (87p)
Taste: The arrival is rounded, rather soft and slightly sweet. Then the wood tannins kick inn on the mid palate with quite a spicey/peppery punch. The aftertaste is more subdued and less pronounced, partly overpowered by the peppery mid palate. The aftertaste is long and also a bit peppery, mainly displaying slight sugar sweetness and oak wood. (85p)
This is a nice variation on Aquavit but there is too much wood. I can really taste the cask but not much of the Madeira. I think the producer has been far more successful with their Madeira finished "Gammel Opland Edel Aquavit Ettermodnet på Madeirafat" (which I rated 92 points).
    Total score: 86 points.
