Bought this on a lark five years ago, unsure of what kind of Rhone style Phelps might make. Decided it was time to open. Surprisingly youthful-looking on opening, solid purple in the glass. Initially had a very CdP like barnyard aroma, but that blew off fast. After about 30 minute decant (so I'm impatient), nose of cooked cherry and spice. Palate was also cherry with plum, earth and leather. A little bitter on the way down but a strong finish. Medium to medium-heavy body. Don't know what the percentage blend is, but Mourvèdre seems to predominate. I think this has several years left before it hits its stride; sorry I opened this now! Well, it's good so I'll enjoy it!

Decanted and started sipping immediately. Creme de milk chocolate with plum sauce. Bursting with beautiful flavors from the get go including earthy plums, creamy milk chocolate, cassis and a little green olive. Medium to full bodied with beautiful color. A little bit of heat on aftertaste, otherwise a treat to smell and drink now. These should go the long haul, which is good because I still have 3 cases left. Part of barrel lot from Hospice du Rhone a couple of years ago. 4 days later, leftover wine in fridge is still fantastic, with no oxidation at all. This wine might last a long, long time.

Way too sweet and one dimensional. Has not improved on counter for last 3-4 days. I do not like this style.
