Sunday hangout (socially distanced) (Chicago, IL): A very bizarre expression of grenache -- definitely not what I would expect. Very pale in colour; this looks almost like kombucha. The nose shows some really crunchy fruits, but lacks some of the perfume I would have expected from a wine of that colour. On the palate, this is especially strange, as it definitely feels a little hot, and also has tons of tannin. A pretty interesting wine to try nonetheless.

Over century old grenache from sand soils in Vine Vale Barossa. Lovely stuff, bright, pure, clean, sweet red fruits, sous bois, lavender, sandle wood, excellent integrated oak, great freshness, essence of Grenache.

A private lunch (Restaurant De Lindehof **, Nuenen, NL): A light and airy Grenache, floral and elegant, almost Emmanuel Reynaud in style, hint of nuts and undergrowth, soft and juicy, crushed red berries, a kiss of wood, rounded and rich (14% ABV) but virtually weightless, subtle and flowing, very gentle tannins, satiny texture, long and honeyed finish. Luxe, calme et volupté, relaxed indeed.

Unique and great wine. Generous grenache profile with depth and complexity. Worth seeking out. Look up what the name means in French for extra fun.
