  • A wonderful balance of fruit and receding tannis. I don't see this improving from this stage.

  • Opened to breathe, decanted for 1-2h. My friends said '11 was a bad year, I should not have bought or held any so long. This wine is the exact opposite of that "common wisdom," still huge intensity and complexity, plenty of tannins, vibrant sweet red fruit. Perfumy nose. Otherwise consistent with my previous notes. Tonight with grilled chicken thighs, just like in April! 93/94

  • Decanted for 3-4h. On the nose, cedar, vanilla, roses, violets, bubble gum (!), cinnamon. Just a lot of complexity in the nose. On the palate, bright strawberries, cherries, lots of tar, mineral, tannins, and acid - a hefty finish, well balanced and integrated. Just wow. Tonight with grilled chicken thighs, with crispy skin, in a lemon grass miso marinade and brown rice. 93/94

  • Opened to breathe and enjoyed over 2h, before it was polished off with Peter over Sunday lunch. Lovely fragrant nose of sandalwood, roses, cinnamon, vanilla. On the palate, round medium bodied heft, red cherries, some tar, oak, chewy tannins (still!), and acid finish. Delicious with filet steak sandwich, covered with melted swiss cheese and black truffle ketchup. This seems to have shaken off its "dumb" phase three years ago and is now ready for business! Or if you prefer, hold off for 2-3 more years to see if the tannins soften.

  • Opened to breathe for an hour. Muted nose of violets, potting soil, furniture polish, and baking spices. Red fruit, spices, hints of oak, mineral, herbs, black pepper, and tannins. Nice complexity but the fruit seems to have receded somewhat, crowded out by the other flavors. Nice long finish. On day 2 slightly better (92), more red cherries, smooth and complex.

Not quite young, not yet mature; this wine seems to be in transition. Will give it more time before trying again. 91/92 on day 1/2
