  There seems to be significant bottle variation with this wine. I'm now having bottle #5 of this 12 bottle lot, and they all differed. One was corked. This last example didn't need much time to open up and seems somehow more velvety then the bottle I described before (under pretty much the same conditions).
  Just noticed most of the previous bottles, from the same original wooden case, had heavy deposit marks on the bottom side across the bottle (like an old Bordeaux). This bottle has none whatsoever. Strange.
  Had I paid serious amounts of money for it, I would have been upset. But given that this wine is generally pretty reasonably priced, it adds a little fun factor in that you never know what to expect exactly.

  This wine tricked me initially. When I uncorked it (perfect state) and smelled the bottle it put a huge smile on my face. Delicious fine black fruit, very precise and fresh. However, when I poured my first glass it had blown away to be replaced with not much else. Also on the palate it was rather backwards with drying tannins and, again, not much else. Disappointed I abandoned the bottle for about 2 hours to find a wine that was much more in line to my great memories of the 2003 vintage. Okay, it is still not quite good as that vintage, but at least with some air, this wine is a beautiful example how ripe matured Cab Franc can taste like. Yes, it has herbaceous notes, but very ripe, leather, tobacco, black fruit. Definitely a wine to eat hearty food with. To be honest, it is nowhere near as good as I remember the 2003 to be, it just lacks length and complexity, but nevertheless this wine (by now) is a really nice bottle to enjoy now and it will probably hold for a few more years.
