  • I am tasting this on day two. Nice wine. I had there cab at a restaurant and thought it was a great value so ended up buying some at the market as an every day wine. Then saw this blend on the shelf and liked the sound of it. IT lives up to its billing on the label in my opinion. I generally like and drink dry Italian wines (Barolo and Brunello). Also Southern Rhone so while I like dry and powerful cabs and merlots, they need to be on that dry and structured side. This one is a Merlot and Zin Blend for the most part but then adds Mouverdre, Grenache, Cab and Syrah so it is a bit of a kitchen sink. Almost what you would get if you blended a Southern Rhone with a Right bank Bordeaux and a CA Zin. These are all very different things so was interested to see if it worked as often these blends don't for me.

End of the day, it is a fine wine that delivers a blend of dark and red fruit. Elements of spice and leather and good texture on the mouthfeel. Balance is fine and Finish holds together nicely. Drinks great. However, I think that despite the blend of things going on, there is not a great deal of depth and complexity. It's all there but in a way that makes you think "That's nice" rather than "Oh Wow!!" So the result is I like the wine. Good with meats and wine and cheese. I'd go elsewhere on pasta or seafood. BBQ would need a bit more spice and layers.
