Mia Luce, Syrah & Stems, 2016: Wow. I haven’t been impressed like that with an Israeli red in a long time. Dark garnet towards royal purple in color. On the nose, blackberries, raspberries, eucalyptus, as well as hints of violets, smoke and black pepper. Medium to full-bodied, with fine concentration yet not overly extracted, making for an elegant mouthfeel. On the palate, just ripe, very precise and exemplary fruit purity, black and red forest berries, tobacco leaves, pencil shavings, a hint of fennel, menthol, tar, medium-plus acidity, with mouth-coating tannins gently drying the mouth while notes of rich espresso unfold on the long and silky finish. This wine is a true classy Syrah with perfect balance, character, complexity and aging potential, showcasing the quality of the fruit and the skills of winemaker Kobi Arviv. 13% Abv. Drink 2020-2026, perhaps longer. 93+
