Found this guy hiding in my cellar and was immediately excited. (Doesn't take much to excite me? Perhaps.) The 2015 was my favorite recent vintage of the Peraj Petita. But I hadn't had one in years.
Well this has held up, nay, improved.
In the glass, medium ruby red with just a touch of rust on the edge.
The nose is so Old World. Tertiary notes abound. Nose of red berries and cherry. Spice. Earth. Brett!
On the palate, medium body, almost light in texture, mouth coating tannins, acid is balanced and lasting on the back palate, red fruit is beautiful: mature and elegant. Garnacha so apparent in fruit character.
This is a wonderful wine. Proof that under $20 kosher wine can have life, vitality, character, maturity.
Paired with @jacksgourmet Italian Sausage, home fermented kraut, dijon.
$16, 14% ABV, non-mevushal

Slightly past peak, but still quite good. Ripe grenache berry fruit with some hints of smoke, leather, earth. Still has nice fruit but still starting to taste tired. I bet a year or two ago it was probably smashing. One bottle left to try which I'll do relatively soon

Still good fruit and acidity despite the age, maybe a bit sharp, holding up very well, but drink up quickly as the 2014 is already declining.
