  • Far be it from me to disagree with my excellent colleague Richard Jennings, but this wine sort of kicks it, at least today in 2018. This is Lodi Zin done right. Ultra deep garnet color. Nice nose that jumps out of the glass, with black cherry, raspberry, smoke, bramble, a touch of coffee. Quite full on the palate, with good depth of berry flavors. Acid balance is round, soft; this is Lodi traditional after all, but the fruit carries it with enough acidity to keep the overall balance smooth and not flabby. Finishes with another wave of black-fruit flavors and just a wisp of tannins. Do you like firm structure? Look elsewhere. Do you like richness? Here it is. The scale of this wine, its sheer brawn, marks it as traditional Lodi Zin. But the brambly, woody, and earthy notes make this a good version thereof.

  • ZAP Simply Summer Celebration, nose of black cherry, black berry, baked cherry pie, and ash, same on the palate, medium/big body, tasty, nice, rich fruit, long finish.
