2019 Visit to North Canterbury, NZ: Another hot year. Here’s your terpenes. Also, fresh and preserved lemons, grapefruit, yellow apples and white mushrooms on the nose. A hint of white pepper. On palate, more going on than for the 2018. Complex and layered with fresh acids. Grapefruits, rocky minerals, soil, tropical fruits and that turpentine element. Sense of low residual sugar (actually ~ 6 gl/rs). Drinking well now.

Pale yellow color. Quite crisp, fresh and sharp nose with surprisingly petrol-driven aromatics, considering how the wine is only one year old. Apart from rather pronounced petrol character, there are quite fragrant aromas of apple blossom, some key lime and a hint of wet stone. The wine is ripe, lively and medium-bodied with a little bit of concentration and crisp, dry flavors of key lime, bright steely minerality, some juicy red apple, a little bit of petrol and a hint of fresh white fruit. Wonderfully high acidity. The finish is fresh, dry and quite long with lively flavors of key lime, some perfumed floral tones, a little bit of stony minerality and a hint of petrol.
A nice, fresh and surprisingly petrol-driven dry Riesling. Good balance, nice sense of structure and very varietally true. Perhaps lacking a bit character and complexity - this is a good new world Riesling, but there's very little of anything that would set this wine apart from the other NZ Rieslings. All in all, enjoyable stuff that might gain some welcome complexity if left to age for some years.

Passar bra till Torsk med bacon. Härlig frikhet med smak av passionsfrukt.
