  • Orange marmalade color. Vibrant nose, with a very wide tonal array. This starts with a sweetly green and floral topnote of a spring garden. There's candied lemon peel and campfire ash. The middle of the register has some richer aromas of dried apricots and crème brûlée, underpinned by burnt embers and some mesquite-like woody notes. Unfortunately, there's little follow-through on the palate. A bit of surgary confectionery sweetness to start, turning clean and citric at midpalate. Through the mouth it feels rather dilute, with only ashy echoes demarcating the finish. A weak showing after a promising olfactory profile, no doubt diminished by dilution down to 40%. I picked this up at Berry's for a lot less than they typically charge for their single cask bottlings. Regrettably, I now see why.
