  • Pretty medium ruby, glinting tangerine at the edge. Cherry and dried blackberry leaves on the nose. Distinctly spicy dried cherries, with some meadow hay that spreads out on the tongue. Residual barky herbs penetrate the gums with some noticeable alcohol while the cherrystem tea lingers. Very good. Well worth the $6.99 grocery tab; a real bargain, frankly. Drunk casually with fried chicken. Decent pair.

  • Cherry and smoke aromas

Easy tannins, nice texture, earthy cherry flavours, well structured into a medium+ length finish

  • A Pinot Noir made from organically farmed grapes. Before fermentation in open-top stainless steel vats the wine is cold-soaked for 3-4 days. Fermented both spontaneously and using cultivated yeasts. Aged for 10 months in new and used French oak barriques. Tasted blind in VV.

Youthful, translucent raspberry red color. Ripe, fragrant and quite attractive nose with aromas of cranberries, some peppery spice, a little bit of earthy Pinosity, light cherry tones and a hint of beet root. Very varietally correct nose. The wine is dry, medium-bodied and lively on the palate with fresh flavors of peppery spice, crunchy redcurrants, some tart cranberries, a little bit of savory wood spice, sweeter hints of dark-toned brooding character and a hint of black raspberry. High in acidity with no perceptible tannins. Long, fresh and slightly warm finish with flavors of peppery Pinosity, ripe cranberries, some cherry tones, a little bit of savory oak spice and a hint of earth.

A clean, fresh and balanced Pinot Noir. Very true to the variety. Perhaps a bit too ripe and high in alcohol for my preference, but a harmonious and well-made effort all the same. A solid NZPN, priced according to its quality at 19,99€.

  • Like a dark fruit gum. Not unpleasant but very little lift or breadth on nose or palate. The worst Cellar Selection Pinot I've tasted. Villa Maria have, for once, let me down.
