Magnum decanted 3 hours (as all wines were) then drunk among 5 over 2 hrs. Surprisingly good, next to 2016 Château de Beaucastel and 2017 Beaucastel Coudoulet (Cotes du Rhone). The Château Beaucastel was classically delicious and velvety rich. But the other 2 were way beyond expectations when they got enough air – more air than what was expected to be necessary for full exposure. The Fortia is 45% syrah, and syrah character showed clearly and deliciously through. Yes, the 40% Grenache was still there to stop total varietal dominance, but relative to the other wines, the Fortia was the only one quick to Pathirana lovers on the back. This blend was much more modern than expected, and its love tonight came from people whose cellars are much more California dominated than mine. Give this bottle respect and air. What disappoints me is that I haven't seen a review of this wine in CellarTracker since 2019. It's still somewhat young (without decanting), and yet it hasn't gotten any notice or certainly respect for years. It should.

Meaty, peppery, almost robust styled wine, built around its spicy kirsch, herb and olive, structured character. Produced from a blend of 45% Syrah, 40% Grenache and 15% Mourvedre, it will take at least 5 years or more years in the cellar before it's fun to drink.

Opened 2 hours before drinking - on the nose, dark cherries and cassis, juicy fruit with moderate tannins and a chewy mid-long finish. Smooth and lovely drinking, approachable even this young. Will continue to develop for next 3 - 5 years at least. Very enjoyable

Pronounced elderflower and caramel nose, and some red cherry over pepper, grass, tree bark, and forest floor. Long peppery and earthy finish
