14.5% alcohol. I had two encounters with this bottle; the first one after an hour in the decanter was not favourable, with vanilla notes coming across too strongly. Three days later, the wine left in the decanter was in excellent condition and the offending notes of élevage had receded to an acceptable level. There was much to admire in terms of vigour and freshness. I conclude from this that Petit Verdot is not subject to oxidation and that this specific wine requires long decanting, at this stage at least. More than an interesting experiment, a success indeed.

100% old vine Petit Verdot aged in French oak (20% new) with 15% in amphora for 14 months. Deep to opaque purple, the wine is black as pitch! Stimulating aromas of ripe black fruit and lifted scents: Damson plum, nastergaal, tilled earth, and Assam tea meet Indian ink, Scottish heather, blue flowers and lavender. Full-bodied and powerful, the entry has a coolness from eucalypt, wild heather, lavender, and lively acidity before broadening out the mid-palate with fabulous palate-staining fruit: plum damson, chokeberry, cassis and 100% Lindt chocolate. Ripe but rigid tannins that are finely grained, this wine is wonderfully expressive yet still feels slightly closed. Will age nicely over the next 3-5 years. Finishes long with a mineral and tar-like Barolo quality!

Now, this was really interesting. You don' t find that often 100% Petit Verdot. It helps you to try to understand the role is playing in a Bordeaux blend. Body, colour and spiciness for sure. Dark crimson. Blackberries, blueberries and spices on the nose. Powerful, concentrated and full-bodied. Strong but very well refined tannins. It really started to shine aftrer 3 hours in the glass. Mineral, medium to long finish.

very dark, on the palate very strong even if not too harsh therefore it doesnt seem the tanins. Tanins are already quite well integrated but the fruit is really strong. love this wine, curious to taste it on the second day. dark red fruit and some jam notes
