Casually tasting new releases from SA and a few fun wines on the porch with my friend Rainer. (Rainer's place): Wine 4. Light to medium yellow golden colour. Ripe yellow fruit, honey notes and light spice are joint by light flinty minerality, with medium-level acidity and average to good length. Good body and concentration, but limited complexity and persistence. Enjoyable, but nothing to write home about. Might benefit from another two or three years in the cellar.

Dinner (Francisca's (3047 Mission St)): Light yellow; minerality, clean, slate, lightly aromatic; palate is light bodied, fresh, salinity, clean; short-medium finish. Lovely, but a completely different kind of Chenin blanc than vouvray. Much more like a Chablis. 87-88

Interesting wine. First white I have had from Chinon. Crisper style Chenin but still rich. Stone fruit and burnt honey / slightly oxidized flavor.
