It's been three years, and a revisit of this wine since 2018 reminds me of why there is so much appeal to be had here, what with the powerfully modern style doing its best to meet halfway with a "just in the nick of time" restraint that holds everything together and puts a smile on any flavor-monger's face. If Queen rattles in your head and "I want it all, and I want it now" constantly tolls in your cranium, then for you my friend, it's time to start popping the corks on these bottles, as the Killing Moon appears to be happily flaunting its sappy black and red cherry, black raspberry, and spicy bark notes with fun-filled PDA.
Worry not young Jedis, this is not a slobbering hound with its face out of the car window on I-5. There is nuance and finesse here, especially on the back end, with an earthy/stem note that keeps it all in check. For those nuance-chasers, perhaps wait another year or three to let the still-powerful delivery relax on the more overt self-acclaim and cruise into Ron Burgundy smoking jacket land come 2023 or so.

Massive black raspberry along with black cherry and lots of spice notes on the nose. Full bodied (14.7% ABV) with a combination of deep, dark black cherry and immense black raspberry the dominant fruit notes. The fruit has tremendous power behind it and the wine overall has a lot of density through the middle. This is balanced by very high acidity as well as spice notes/a spice quality throughout. With about three hours open, started to come together towards the back and show some hints of what it might be capable of with a few more years. While clearly well made, this can be a very polarizing style of pinot. Most Wren Hop pinots I have tasted do have big fruit, but really open up and show nuance and elegance with cellar time and time open (the proverbial velvet fist); showing depth without being overblown. To my taste, I think this one just needed more time and I would've been smarter to wait until 2022 and give it more time open. As the rest of my Wren Hops are '16 and '18, I'll be waiting a bit on those! However, if you enjoy a bigger, more powerful style of pinot, now is the time to enjoy this one.

Another full bodied and expressive wren hop pinot. Hit a tad sweet on the pop n pour. With noticeable tannin. After some air the wine meshed nicely start to finish. Drink or hold.

Fantastic wine. Tasted side-by-side with Night Children...the "reserve" from the same vineyard and vintage. This is the more acidic and fruit forward of the two, and an absolute stunner.

This wine hit hard, especially for a pinot, and felt a bit disjointed though fragrant and complex. Probably could hold longer and maybe soften more.
