  We empty our last bottle of 2004 Monardière VV tonight. So happy it delivers what we hoped for when we bought it, especially since the previous one was a disappointment. Sure, there's some chocolate and spice from the oak. But there's also a good balance, a herbal freshness and a salty minerality, which is really enjoyable. The real pleasure is more to find in the mouth than on the nose. A somewhat modern expression of Vacqueyras, but that was exactly what we had in mind this evening.

  There is a lot of kirsch notes to the vieilles vignes. I find it to be more polished than their normal cuvée. More international, less herbs, less terroir, which is not necessarily a good thing in my book. A balanced, medium bodied effort with silky tannins. Well made, but it did not "move" me. I prefer the cheaper réserve de 2 monardes.
